Video/TV: Bill Maher on The View

Bill Maher was on The View yesterday morning promoting his upcoming movie Religulous (which I can't wait to see). Things got pretty heated considering that two of the hosts are conservative, religious nutcases. Entertaining television, to say the least.

I'm really interested to see this movie also.

I must say, though, that Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are probably not the best go-to's for defending the Christian faith. Nor is a a man who plays Jesus at a religious theme park, George Bush, or any of the other cast of incompetent characters shown in the trailer. Some of Hasselbeck's statements proved her inability to rightly defend the Christian faith.

And for Maher to imply that his film is objective by saying that he is simply asking questions about religion that no asks undermines his credibility because it's impossible for someone as outspokenly against religion as Maher to not be subjective when creating a documentary about religion. Beyond that, the fact the he both grew up Catholic and had parents from two different religions reveals a great deal about his confusion with faith.

So I know you probably expected this from me but I felt like it needed to be said. Not only is important to bring to light Mahers' very obvious subjectivity but also his misrepresentation of the Christian faith specifically based on this interview, the trailer, and other reviews. There's a great deal more that could, and should, be said, though.
