Preash: Stormy the Weather Bear

So without really thinking about it, I agreed to dress up as Stormy the Weather Bear and entertain children for two hours at the Oklahoma City Auto Show.

Stormy is KFOR's weather mascot. Why does the weather need a mascot? Why a bear? Good questions...

Several years ago, a costume company called our station and said, "We have a bear costume we need to get rid of. Wanna buy it for cheap?" Our station said yes and thus Stormy the Weather Bear was born.

Just a few days after agreeing to it, I was regretting my decision. I've dressed up as Stormy once before, for a promo, which I guess is why I said yes this time. But after realizing that I'd actually have to be happy and hug kids in a hot bear suit for two hours, I tried to back out. To no avail.

The worst part was having to put the costume on. I was in in this sort of green room with other Auto Show VIPs coming in and out. One dude saw me getting in the suit and simply said, "That sucks."

I think everyone should have to dress up in an animal costume at least once in their life. It's a very humbling experience.

70% of the kids smiled and waved
10% of the kids hugged me
20% of the kids cried

10% of the adults smiled and waved
80% of the adults ignored me completely
10% of the adults patted me on the back and said something to the effect of, "Hang in there."

It was hot. I sweated my balls off.

My line of sight was very limited. I could only see what was directly in front of me. Alot of times I didn't realize a kid was trying to say hi to me and waiting for a pencil until he or she was hugging my leg. I'm sure there were a few who are now convinced that Stormy is an a-hole because I didn't hear them and accidentally ignored them completely.

Anywho, that was my Stormy the Weather Bear experience.

Oh yeah, and I waved like a fruit because I thought it would be more "in character." I don't wave like this in real life. So SHADDUP!

Boy, did this make my morning. This is everything you hate: being hot, sweating, being friendly, small children. Funny Stuff!

I think you should start waving like that...it would look really cool.

That little kid didn't say thank you when you handed them the pencil!! Kids these days.....

Stormy's head is huge! Too bad you didn't fall over this time. :(

She did say thanks, you just can't hear her. That's why I nodded yes.

Also, Morgan, I don't hate being friendly and I DEFINITELY don't hate children. I get along really well with kids and they usually love me.

Stop making stuff up.

I love the bear costume! That's a great costume wave by the way. Well I have kept up with your blog here and there but never signed up to leave comments...but here I am. I have lots of catching up to do. I'm looking forward to some great music!
