Badass: The New York Times and Wikipedia Conspire to Free Taliban Hostage
This is one of the craziest, coolest news stories I've ever read!
A New York Times journalist, David S. Rohde, was kidnapped by Taliban 7 months ago. But the New York Times and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales did everything they could to keep the story quiet so Rohde would be a less valuable bargaining chip and could escape quicker and more easily. BADASS.

Preash: Al Roker and Colbie Caillat in Charlotte, Behind the Scenes
So Friday morning, Al Roker was in Charlotte doing some kind of charity thing called Lend a Hand. Here are pics and junk...
We had to be Uptown at 6:45 AM. My alarm clock went off at 5:15. Brutalz. I never sleep well when I know I have to wake up early because I get paranoid that I didn't set the alarm correctly. Also, I can't stand seeing the sunrise because it means either I'm up way too early or I'm up way too late. In either case, I'm pretty miserable.
I met Stevie 3-Times at the station and we took a production van Uptown. Because it was Friday, there was no new Howard Stern to listen to on the way. Bummer.

Some of the people in this pic (from left to right): Luanne (my boss), myself, Tressel, The Goat, and Stevie 3-Times all in the back row, Work Dave in the front row with his shirt tucked in because he was important that day
Al Roker came out to do his thing. He was about what you'd expect. A little more quiet and boring when the cameras are off. He seemed to be Twittering a lot on his iPhone between cut-ins and stuff. He put lotion on his face and head a couple times before shoots.

A co-worker told me and Stevie 3-Times that there was free food inside. So away we went. As soon as we walked in the building, my keen senses immediately picked up on the back of a hot chick 50 feet away standing in the doorway of a small room. "Hottie with a guitar straight ahead," I told 3-Times. It just so happened that that was the free food room.
We got in there and I immediately recognized the hot chick as singer Colbie Caillat. 3-Times was impressed by my swift recognition. We tried to remain calm as we walked over to the tables to peep the food. But I couldn't really see anything or think because Colbie was just behind us, casually playing her hit "Bubbly" on her guitar while humming the words. We were being serenaded as we surveyed the fruit and breakfast burritos. It was crazy. I found it weird that that was the song she chose to play for no one in particular. I would think she's sick of playing that song by now.
I grabbed a cranberry juice and we bailed. It was mindblowing what we'd just experienced. When we got back outside, I was pissed that I didn't ask for a picture. We found a co-worker, who also happens to be a lesiban, who was more than willing to go back inside with us for round 2. "Jodi's the perfect wingman," 3-Times said.
With Jodi's help, I was able to get the pic with Colbie. I had my hand on her waist. Crunk. She was really nice and down to earth. And tall and hot. Stevie 3-Times is even more shy than me when it comes to this stuff. Jodi and I were like, "Steve, you wanna get a picture, too?"
"No, that's okay," he said. "I'll let you get back to what you're doing."
"I'm just standing here," Colbie said. But Stevie was too afraid. So we left.
Me and Colbie Caillat - I stuck out my chest to appear more manly
Colbie rear view
Later, outside, we got around Colbie again. She took more pics with fans and Luanne. Again, I was like, "You should get a picture, Steve." Luanne and I pretty much had to force him. And wouldn't you know it, as soon as we got back to the station, Steve's pic with Colbie was posted as his Facebook profile pic. He didn't waste a minute getting that up. Bless his little heart.
And now, time for what I do best...hamming it up for the camera.

TV: MTV's Real World is Back!
ME Cancun, home of current castmembers
Just watched the season premiere of Real World: Cancun and I'm overjoyed at the fact that MTV producers decided to back to what makes Real World DVR-worthy. Attractive dumdums getting drunk, boning and fighting.
If the rest of this season maintains the level of must-see frivolity that was offered on the premiere, I may just be able to completely forget the disaster that was last season.
No feel-good social statements force-fed down your throat.*
No one trying to find themselves or their place in the world.**
No uglies.***
If I want to see a touching, insightful, meaningful story about deep, intelligent people I can relate to and feel for, I'll watch a documentary on HBO On Demand. That's not what I'm looking for on MTV's Real World. And this season, MTV gets it.
"That's my mom!"
* If last season's transgender dude wasn't an a-hole piece of sh*t, maybe the everyone-is-someone overarching moral wouldn't have come off so laughable.
** Yet, fingers crossed.
*** Aesthetically speaking, of course.

Preash: Al Roker and Colbie Caillat Teaser
Our station did a big event this morning with Al Roker doing live shots for the Today Show. Colbie Caillat was also there, unbeknownst to most everybody. She was unbelievably gorgeous.
At one point, Stevie 3-Times and I were picking out free breakfast items in a room of about 3 other people while Colbie was casually playing her hit song "Bubbly" on her guitar and humming the words. It was surreal.
Full story and pics to come. This pic of Colbie from the back should hold you off until then.

YumYums: Hardee's Gets in on the Sexual Innuendo Fast Food Advertising Craze
Yesterday afternoon I was in an edit bay editing together some topicals when two sales guys came in to check out a tape on a Beta SX deck. They told me they just got some new commercials in and wanted to see if they were too offensive for air.
"Let's see what Ryan thinks," said Bert. "Tell us if you find this offensive." I told the fellows that it takes a lot to offend me. Roll tape.
Goody balls. Creamy Sweet Holes. Hole Munchers. Yay Holes. Blowjobbers. Nut Ball Asses. Penis Testicles.
Move over, Burger King. You're not the only fast food chain that hopes to boost sales with thinly veiled dick jokes.
The second version of the commercial had the announcer dude at a table with two plates. One had some donut holes on it. The other had the Biscuit Holes. The donut holes where labeled "A" and the Biscuit Holes "B". Which do people like more more? A Holes or B Holes? Let your imagination fill in the rest. Or just wait for it to air.

List/TV: Most Bizarre Series Finales of All Time
This website I've never heard of has a list of the Most Bizarre Series Finales of All Time.
Now allow me to emote here a little bit. THE SOPRANOS SERIES FINALE WAS GREAT. I don't mind it being on this list because it was, indeed, bizarre. It wasn't your cookie-cutter, Hollywood ending. It didn't make everything black and white. It forced the viewer to do a little work and interpretation. Or let the viewer find an article that properly did the work and interpretation for them. Which is what I had to do.
Like everyone else, I was a little weirded out by the finale. I actually didn't have HBO at the time, so I was downloading the season six episodes and watching them the Monday after. So while you probably thought your DVR f*cked up on the last cut to black, I thought I had downloaded an incomplete rip.
I knew I liked the finale, but wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Then, a few days later, Valenza alerted me to this great article that brilliantly explains it. If, after all this time, you're still on the fence, make sure you read the article.
